2.0 What we need

To expand our digital transformation capabilities and enhance our strategic customer experience offering, we are seeking a talented and versatile Digital Designer. With a strong focus on the corporate sector, you will be instrumental in helping our clients transition their communications from traditional formats (like PDFs) to engaging, user-centred digital experiences.

We're looking for a senior-level designer (or a mid-level designer with the right experience mix ready for their next career move) with a proven portfolio demonstrating an ability to interpret complex briefs, develop original ideas and deliver high-quality digital design solutions. You'll need an unrivalled eye for detail, a deep understanding of digital best practices and a passion for creating seamless user journeys. Crucially, you'll be confident, proactive and adept at communicating professionally with colleagues, clients and suppliers – often acting as an agency expert in your field.

3.0 What you’ll do

As a Digital Designer at Spiral, you'll play a pivotal role in evolving our clients' digital presence. While your primary focus will be on digital design execution, your expertise will also be crucial in the upfront strategic phase, leveraging insights into audience behaviours and data to inform your solutions to our clients’ needs.

Working closely with our Director of Strategy & Planning, you'll contribute to the discovery phase of projects. This will involve understanding and utilising behavioural science principles within marcomms, engaging in user research activities such as customer focus groups, co-creation sessions, comms audits, user interviews, usability testing and competitor analysis. You'll be expected to translate these insights and data into well-informed and effective design solutions across the user experience.

You’ll be responsible for creating a wide range of engaging digital communications. Your deliverables will include user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups, design systems, style guides, interactive PDFs and responsive web designs – as well as more traditional items such as product booklets or regulatory change notifications. You'll manage design proofs, amendments and final asset supply, ensuring everything adheres to critical brand and style guidelines.

You'll have high autonomy, managing your own time and agile worklist, coordinating multiple projects and clients, and working under the guidance of our Creative Director and Director of Strategy & Planning. You'll collaborate daily with our design studio (graphic designers, artworkers, copywriters, QC) and project managers, providing clear design hand-offs and ensuring technical feasibility. As a key expert, you'll help lead client discussions and presentations for strategic insights and self-manage design development interactions. Quality control is paramount and you will be responsible for ensuring everything you produce meets our trademark high standards, either independently or through peer review. You'll also handle various project administration tasks.

4.0 What you’ll need

  • A strong portfolio showcasing digital design execution, including case studies, interactive prototypes and examples of design systems or style guides.
  • Proven ability to leverage audience behavioural insights and data to inform design solutions across the user experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in industry-standard UX/UI design tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe Firefly, Sketch, Miro) and the Adobe Creative Suite more generally (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, AfterEffects and Express). Knowledge of popular online tools such as Canva would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrable experience with UX methodologies (e.g., journey mapping, user research, persona development) and an understanding of both Agile and traditional project management principles.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.2.
  • A forensic eye for detail, coupled with a deep understanding of digital best practices and brand-compliant design.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and lead client discussions.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a solution-finding mindset, capable of simplifying complex information into intuitive designs.
  • Proven experience working at a higher level in a creative studio or production environment, ideally with a strong preference for experience within the corporate sector (or other regulated industries like financial/banking, energy, higher education or transport).
  • A higher-level Graphic Design, Digital Design or UX Design qualification or equivalent proven experience.

5.0 What you’ll get

  • Flexible working hours (within bounds)
  • A flexible lunch break – from 30 to 90 minutes
  • Working-from-home options (after probation period)
  • Workplace pension
  • Secure, on-site parking
  • Drinks, fruit and snacks in the office
  • Home access to full Adobe CC software package

5.1 Annual leave

  • 19 days bookable
  • 8 bank holidays (in a normal year)
  • 1 day around your birthday
  • 1 wellbeing day
  • 3 days between Boxing Day and New Year's Day (predetermined shutdown)

To support your work-life balance, you can opt to book up to an additional five days of unpaid leave per year.
